Interchange Outer East (IOE) is a non profit, non government, incorporated, community based organisation. I.O.E. operates as an independent association and is managed by a Board of Management, which is democratically elected from our membership.
We provide support to children and young adults with disabilities and their families living in the Shire of Yarra Ranges and the cities of Knox and Maroondah.
Any child with a physical, intellectual, sensory or psycho social disability, aged 0 - 18, who is living at home is eligible to use our respite and age appropriate recreational programs. We also offer a day service and respite and recreational programs for young adults aged 18 - 25. As well as the volunteer based programs Interchange operates a paid respite program. This is open to people of all ages and is not restricted to outer eastern region residents.
Volunteer assistance is crucial for the running of many of our programs and we are an organisation with a strong, positive volunteer ethos. Through volunteering Interchange creates opportunities for community members to meet people with mixed abilities, enhance their skills and develop a conectiveness to their community.
Since it's beginnings in 1982 Interchange Outer East has continued to grow in size and program diversity. Originally the volunteer host carer program was the only avenue for family respite. Today a wide range of innovative programs and services provide quality respite, recreational and social opportunities to over 750 families and their children in Melbourne's outer east.
