Family Support Programs

Through Interchange’s Family Support Programs each individual family member is provided with opportunities for ‘time out’, relaxation, fun and the chance to form friendships and support networks.

Mothers' Support Program

A supportive and fun program for Interchange mothers of children and young adults with disabilities Mothers get together for some well deserved ‘ME time’, when they can forget their responsibilities and enjoy themselves socialising with other mothers who have an understanding of their situation. One activity is organised each school term plus a full weekend away in November each year. All details are taken care of so Mums only have to relax and enjoy!

"I just hang out for my mums’ outings– laughing, chatting, just being myself and letting go. They’re my four times a year sanity savers..." Kerri H

Fathers' Support Program

A program for Interchange fathers of children with disabilities.

Fathers need time out too. Occasional weekend camps for Dads provide them with an opportunity to meet other fathers, relax and have fun. Some weekends are more structured enabling Dads to discuss with others their role as father of a child with a disability. Other weekends are simply for relaxing. socialising and having a break and a good time.

Sibling Support

For all brothers and sisters, aged 5 - 18 years, of people with disabilities living in the eastern region of Melbourne.

Our Sibling Program supports siblings in a fun and positive way. It not only involves the fun of camps and group programs but also creates a friendly environment where Siblings can meet others in a similar situation. Through our Sibling Support Program we encourage the positives, and talk about the negatives, in a fun and relaxed way. We play games and encourage free discussion, this way the siblings act as a natural support for each other. They also learn strategies for coping with stressful or difficult situations.

Family Camp

An annual event, held over the long weekend of March, Family Camp is a time for families to enjoy a social weekend of fun, activity and relaxation together with other Interchange families.

"Family Camp is the best thing in the world. I just love it and so do my kids. It feels like I am going on holidays with one big family – my Interchange family. Everyone is so friendly and supportive. We all can’t wait for the next one to come around"- Patricia V, parent.

Annual Christmas Family Day

A December get together for everyone involved with Interchange Outer East. Games and activities, food and a visit from Santa ensure a fun filled end of year event.
