Interchange Outer East’s recreation programs for children and adults have always provided a fun and varied a schedule of day activities, weekends away and camps at an affordable cost. Up until now, IOE has received funding from DHHS to run these programs – hence the eligibility criteria of age and region that has always applied to IOE’s recreation programs. Participants have been charged a minimal contribution fee for each activity, with staff and support costs being covered by the DHHS funding.

Whilst IOE will continue to receive this funding until the full roll out of the NDIS, once an NDIS package has been received participants will be responsible for the full and true cost of any activities they attend. It is therefore imperative that recreational activities are included in their NDIS plan.
Participants need to ensure they tell their NDIS planner what type of activities they would like to do, how and why they want to participate and how often. Like all other plan items, recreation needs to be seen as reasonable and necessary and should tie in with overall goals.

IOE is committed to continuing to provide a comprehensive recreational  program under NDIS and has put together a publication which outlines support costs IOE NDIS Recreation Support Costs and is recommended reading for anyone wanting to include IOE recreational activities in the NDIS plan.

To assist families and individuals to understand the true costing of recreational activities, what is and is not covered by NDIS and how they can manage this changeover to self-funding, IOE will be holding a number of information sessions over the coming weeks. These will be held both at IOE’s Lilydale and Ferntree Gully sites. For dates and more information about these sessions click HERE

A further information session which will discuss post school transition and adult group services under NDIS will follow each of the Recreation and the NDIS sessions For more information click HERE

Registration for all sessions is essential, reply to IOE 97585522 or ioe@ioe.org.au
