A group from IOE’s Community site have been participating in the Social Impact program, run in conjunction with Melba Support Services and Pathways, since mid 2016. The program is all about relationships and interaction, self, positive communication, and building social skills. Participants are involved in a series of workshops, discussions, role plays and supported social events.

Their recent outing to the Dandenongs, planned by the Ferntree Gully Group, was a great day out. It began at Ferntree Gully station where the group got to practice those skills involved in catching public transport – safety, security, working to the timetable and using Myki. After catching the train to Upper Gully they took a bus to Mount Dandenong before undertaking a massive up-hill walk to the famous SkyHigh tourist area. Fortunately the weather cleared  up  just  long enough for them to see the city views. Following a delicious lunch it was off for an adventure in the maze where they all managed to get to the end after rescuing one very lost group member. A nice surprise in the end with everyone being rewarded with certificates and badges on completion of the maze.

The group will be involved with the program until October so there are certain to be many more fun times to come.
