Training and Info Sessions

Interchange Outer East offers a free comprehensive program of training in health, safety and disability related issues.

Topics range from legislative requirements such as First Aid, Medication and Manual Handling to specialised medical care, and incorporate the latest sector developments and trends.

To ensure we provide best quality service and support, we encourage our permanent staff, support workers and volunteers to participate in training to advance their skills and qualifications.

Families and other interested people are also welcome to attend training, but a small fee may be charged for some training sessions. We are also happy to tailor training to suit individual needs and requests.

When: Monday 12 November 9am-5pm
Where: IOE Keith Thornton Training Room 5-7 Yose St Ferntree Gully

To be eligible for this training you must have undertaken First Aid Training HLTAID004 or HLTAID003 within the last 3 years and 3 months.
This training will give you the First Aid qualification HLTAID004 – Provide first aid in an education and care setting


When: Monday 19 November 6.oopm-8.30pm;
Friday 23 November 9.30am-12.00pm

At this training you will learn about Interchange Outer East’s Medication Policy and Procedures, gain an understanding of infection control, prevention and management and learn how to effectively administer medication.


When: Tuesday 20 November 5.30pm-8.00pm;
Friday 23 November 1.00pm-3.30pm

PBS is focused on understanding the purpose and function of behaviours in relation to what a person is trying to communicate,  in order to respond and offer support in a way that is consistent, effective, respectful, reduces harm risk and improves quality of life, communication and choice for the individual.

Volunteer Orientation

Our volunteer orientation sessions are a great way to start off your volunteer experience. You’ll learn a bit about IOE, meet other volunteers, get tips and learn some skills that will give you confidence and make volunteering on camps and activities much easier.

It’s compulsory for all volunteers to attend one orientation session within the first three months of becoming an IOE volunteer. We’ll be running regular  sessions to give everyone an opportunity to attend.
