Sibling Support Program

For all brothers and sisters, aged 5 - 18 years, of people with disabilities living in the eastern region of Melbourne.

SIBLING SUPPORT GROUPS

These groups support siblings in a fun and positive way. Each group is for a particular age range: 5 - 8 years, 9 - 12 years and our latest group for teenagers aged 13 - 18 years. Groups meets one afternoon a week, after school hours,  for 6 weeks. Interchange runs one group per term. Siblings take part in discussion and activities which encourage them to express how they feel being the sibling of a brother or sister with a disability. They also learn to develop strategies for coping with stressful situations.  Children learn they are not alone and friendships with other siblings often develop.

SIBLING CAMPS

A great way to catch up with sibling group friends and to make new friends ! The camps provide an opportunity for siblings to get away from home for a couple of days and have fun in a supportive environment. An interchange activity just for them and where they are the most important person ! Camps are run by Interchange staff with the assistance of volunteers, many of whom are siblings themselves.
