‘Me Time’ at Torquay

Our recent Annual Mums Weekend was the largest on record with fifty one ladies leaving their cares behind and heading off to Torquay for a couple of days of ‘me’ time. We stayed at the Peppers Sands Resort about 5km from the centre of Torquay – not too much of a problem as with our vehicles, others’ cars and public transport everyone seemed to be able to get where they wanted.

In spite of the forecast the weather was quite OK  – in fact I wish I’d packed some Tshirts instead of my winter woolies!

This year we had an early afternoon departure as well as the usual 7pm bus and the majority took advantage of the earlier start to get some extra time away.

The weekend is more or less a ‘do what you want’ affair, apart from allocated group get together times, so ladies took themselves off for beach and town walks, cafe catchups and the obligatory hunting for bargains at all the local op shops. The three horse riders enjoyed a very pleasant ride but , in spite of the resort being attached to a golf course, the closest anyone got to golf was the view from many of the rooms.

Accommodation was excellent as was, for the most part, the food – especially breakfast! Saturday night is always a dinner and games affair. No dressups this year but a definite games beach theme – “beached az bro” became an ongoing comment for the rest of the weekend (sorry everyone!)

Sunday we checked out and headed to Geelong for lunch via Barwon Heads. As there was a market on the Geelong foreshore we forwent the planned trip to the Mill market (save that for another time ladies).  The old fashioned carousel brought out the kid in some of the group, while Kathy took herself off for a sail on the Enterprise (a definite for a future Mums group activity). Some caught up for a ‘parting glass’ while others just strolled and browsed and enjoyed the sunshine.

Another record for this weekend – we arrived back on time – unfortunately. Can’t wait for next year.
