The Supernaturals basketball team have taken out the region's All Abilities Basketball League premiership today at Knox Basketball Stadium.
This is the team's debut season and they have had mixed results during the season and they looked like they only had an outside chance of making the final. The highly fancied Wildcats from Burke and Beyond had an undefeated season leading into today's match but the Supernaturals rose to the occasion in the end winning by four points 38 - 34. The scoreline was see-sawing with both teams taking an equal share in the lead but in a thrilling contest the Supernaturals proved too strong and won the contest.
The team, named after and inspired by Interchange Outer East's rock band 'the Supernaturals' includes some of the band members and a number of their biggest fans. The team was fortunate this year to receive some funding to buy new basketball shirts that include the names of the players printed on the back, making them not only the best team of players but the best dressed.
So congratulations to the team on what was a fairytale finish. The team are Pat Aiello, Anthony Lombardo, Aaron Sprigg, Mark Sawyer, James Cripps, David Fitzgerald, Tom Allen and Hayden Shultz. Thank you also to supporting coaches Corinne Wilson, Matthew Jackson and Jules Logan. We are looking forward to playing, and winning, again next season.
