Unexpected Reward

Volunteering at Interchange is incredible. The opportunities you get to be a part of, the kids you're lucky enough to meet, the fellow volunteers you build strong bonds with, and the hilarious moments that come from it, that you can look back on for years; there's nothing like it.
I've been involved with Interchange Outer East for a while now, and had the opportunities to work within other organisations too, but something about Interchange brings me back every time. It's become a part of me, the people, the culture, the values. I find myself, in so many instances thinking about things I've learnt from Interchange, and how that could be implemented in my current situation.
I've grown so much as a person while being involved with Interchange, and I'd never be doing the things I do today if I hadn't gotten involved. It really was the best thing I've ever done, I've no idea where I'd be if I'd never signed up! I wouldn't be working in any of the jobs I work, I wouldn't have the friends I have, and I'd have boring weekends and school holidays!!
When I was told about the Victoria Day award, I was very surprised. It's never something I'd even considered - I don't volunteer to win awards, I volunteer for the kids, the families, and the fun of it. I still don't completely feel I deserve the award, I know so many amazing volunteers who would be more than worthy of the award.
Thank-you to those who organised this, it's lovely to get some kind of recognition for the efforts I've put in, but a mere thank you from a well rested family is enough, so it's really quite overwhelming to be receiving an award.
