A couple of months ago we went to an amazingly wonderful workshop run by The Monash Young Persons' Reference Group.

The 'Natural Confidence' workshop was designed to remind us all that we all are beautiful, no matter what, and that the fashion industry is lying to us. As an extension to this we entered an art competition entitled ‘what does “POSITIVE BODY IMAGE” mean to you’. Community Balance entered this through our Social Dynamics program that looks at stuff about growing up, including sexuality. One of Community's participants, Kimberley Mewes, entered her own art work independent of program ... and won first prize. It was a peice entitled ‘Girl from Mars’ - art with accompanying text, telling how people stare at her as if she was an alien and that she tells them to “piss off” because she is OK with who she is. First Prize - how cool is that! And if that wasn’t enough, Community Balance entered a montage piece which won third place, with the award being accepted by Bronwyn Marshall on behalf of our group. We are proud indeed!
