Interchange Outer East joined in the Social Inclusion Week events on Saturday 28th November at the Bayswater Street Party.

Dr. Jonathon Welch, founder of the National Street Party project, headed down to Bayswater to enjoy the celebration of 'its all about we'. Dr. Welch is known for his work with The Choir of Hard Knocks now known as the Choir of Hope and Inspiration.

Interchange Outer East's Balance Link program together with Knox Community Health Service, Knox City Council, TravelSmart, Uncle Louies Cafe, Heavenly Cakes, CFA, Rotary, Ygo Radio and many others contributed to a great event.

Peter Siomos from Interchange Outer East said, "It was a great turn out for the first Bayswater Street Party. It's important that everyone has access to their local community and we are more than happy to be involved. We had some volunteers come and support us through the day, giving out free scones, fruit salad and tea and coffee. It was a great chance to meet others in the community and enjoy the entertainment"

The Supernaturals, an Interchange Outer East supported band, performed some of their latest hits as a warm up for their Neon Lights Tour through Western Victoria during December.

"Jonathon joined in with the Supernaturals in an interesting version of 'Highway to Hell' and everyone joined in the chorus. It was great fun." said Mr Siomos.

The street party included free sausage sizzle, Devonshire tea, Christmas stalls, performances, children's activities and local stalls.

National Street Party is an event about connection, caring, inclusion and celebration and is held during Social Inclusion Week - this year the 23rd - 29th November. It aims to establish a sense of community by inspiring individuals and groups to look beyond their own backyards and engage with those around them. Communities are inspired to come together, connect and care for each other.

"We are definitely looking forward to being involved in a bigger and better street party next year." Mr Siomos said.
