Cheques totaling $13,000 where handed over to Interchange Outer East for community development projects in 2012 at a grant presentation celebration at Knox City Council offices on November 16.
Interchange Outer East received the funding from the Knox City Council Community Development Fund for a number of exciting projects and events that are planned for the coming year: Sports Week 2012; a project that focuses on new families; 2012 Interchange Outer East Conference.
Sports Week is a week long event during which Interchange Outer East provides opportunities for young adults to try new sports and connect with local clubs. The event is entering its 8th year and each year gets bigger and better and continues to make new connections in local communities with ongoing benefits for all. It is anticipated that Sports Week 2012 will run from April 30 – May 4, including a weekend, but dates are still to be confirmed.
The new family project will focus on encouraging families, who
have joined Interchange in the past 5 years, to become involved in family support activities such as Mothers' and Fathers' activities and camps and the annual Interchange Family Camp.
However, it is the conference that we are most excited about as we have presenters such as the current Australian of the Year – Simon McKeon, the founder of the social enterprise STREATS - Rebecca Scott and other very interesting speakers, topics and workshops. More information will be coming out shortly but we are sure the conference will be a highlight of Interchange Outer East’s 30th year. Conference dates are May 15th & 16th 2012.
