Sport Week participants filled almost 500 positions in 24 events for the annual Interchange Outer East Sports Week held from May 2nd – 7th 2010.
Young adults involved with Interchange from Knox, Maroondah and the Shire of Yarra Ranges enjoyed the challenges of trying various sports including; golf, beach volleyball, lawn bowls, soft-ball, martial arts and bocce.
The world’s most popular sport – fishing was a new addition with a group heading out on a fishing charter into the waters of Western Port Bay.
The Knox City Council supported event enables young people access to a variety of activities and opportunities to get involved in local sporting clubs.
Sports Week Coordinator Pete Siomos said, “It’s really important to provide opportunities for people to try new things and connect with their local communities and Sports Week helps us do that.”

Over the years Interchange Outer East has developed relationships with Cricket Victoria, Johnson Park Sharks and Croydon Ranges Cricket Clubs along with Knox City Tennis Club, Revolution Martial Art and Knox District Netball Centre.
“This year Interchange Outer East made more great connections with Action Indoor Sports, Bayswater Bowls Club, Softball Victoria, Knox Softball Association, Emerald Golf Club and the Knox Bocce Club.” Mr Siomos said.
Highlights of the week included the All-In Sports Tournament where 105 people participated in 11 teams playing a mixture of basketball and soccer, with each team working their way through to the grand final.
The Fun Run/Walk/Roll attracted 130 people. Fortunately the weather held out long enough to complete a lap around the lake, followed by some games and a football match.

This is the fourth year that Knox City Council has supported the event through the Knox Community Development Grants.
