Informative Aspect Workshop

I recently attended a three day positive behaviour support workshop with a family from Interchange. The workshop, run by Aspect (Autism Spectrum Australia) was targeted at families and caregivers of children with autism spectrum disorders, aged 6-25 years.

I found the workshop to be very comprehensive, offering a variety of tools to further enhance the caregiver’s ability to support their child within a positive behaviour support framework. The workshop is a holistic approach that works through the many different dimensions of autism and the multi-faceted needs that can come with supporting someone with autism spectrum disorder. Furthermore, the follow up support from this program is phenomenal, with post-workshop consultations offered to all those who attended, and of course the entire workshop is free!

The highlight for me throughout the workshop was looking around the room and seeing parents having ‘light bulb’ moments. They would often comment that they could see where they could do something differently in their day-to-day lives in order to achieve a better outcome for their child as well as for themselves.

The next workshop is scheduled for 7-9 May 2014 in Ringwood. See the flyer attached or visit the website – www.autismspectrum.org.au. Interchange is also looking at hosting the training for our own families soon. Please check out this priceless resource!
