High Country Dads Weekend

Our recent Dads Weekend Away began as per usual with us waiting for two dads who didn’t show but who would have boosted our number to fourteen. So with trailer, van and the ute fully loaded the ‘dirty dozen’ took off for a pleasant trip to the region of Mt Buller.

On the way we had a quick stop at Yea for dinner, followed by two more stops on the way (that lemonade goes right through you!) before we reached our Saw Mill Settlement chalet at the base of the mountain. Fire lit, fridge stacked and we settled down for a night of table tennis. We have a new champ, at last the reign of King Fred is over – Hail King Frank! Oh yeah more lemonade. Big John must have thought we were playing charades as, at 2am he was lying face down on the carpet with his backside proudly pointing towards the ceiling in a wonderful portrayal of a bicycle rack.

Saturday saw a trip to Craig’s Hut (Man From Snowy River fame), a late lunch – thanks Mark and Frank – then off to the local footy. Dinner at the pub at night, then back to our chalet for cards, table tennis a movie and more lemonade.

Next morning we headed off for the top of Mt Buller. After parking the van, the fit and healthy ones hiked to the summit and the smart ones found a coffee shop and waited and waited for the return of the others. Back to pack up, Mansfield Bakery for lunch then home to Interchange and our loving families who missed us so much.

Fred not only lost his title of table tennis king but the human ‘nav sat’ also lost his way!
