On Friday, 8th of April, a group of young volunteers from Interchange Outer East held a festival at Kings Park in Upper Ferntree Gully as IOE’s contribution to the National Youth Week 2016 celebrations. The festival YOUth be HEARd, which was solely organised by the volunteers, aimed to raise awareness of youth mental health whilst also saying thank you to all the young people who contribute to our community.

It was a great turnout, and all the activities were thoroughly enjoyed by all those who attended.

A big thank you to IOE and to all the staff and volunteers who gave up their time to help us on the day. We’d also like to thank all those people, businesses and organisations who contributed their time, information and activities to make the event such a great day: Beth and Fran who were kept busy on the henna stand; Amazeballs Bubble Soccer; Disco Inflato; Disability Sport and Rec Wheelchair Basketball; Prostage Victoria; The Sound Guys; Directfresh; Beyond Blue; Reachout; Kids Helpline; and Eating Disorder Victoria. Thanks to our wonderful musicians, Caitlin Geikowski and Sammy Cathcart, whose talents added to the atmosphere on the day.

Finally we are grateful to DHHS National Youth Week Grants scheme and the Australian Finance and Property Solutions Group Community and Sponsorship Program for funding the NYW event.
We couldn’t have done it without the support of all of you.
