Sport for Fun Knox welcomed Aaron, Rohail and Di from Cricket Victoria to our session last Monday, as well as representatives from Ferntree Gully Cricket Club’s Access All Ability Team.

We had an amazing time practicing batting, bowling and other ball skills. Balls were sent flying as we hit balls off cones, and then off the nets.

We played a bowling game which was lots of fun and produced some fierce competition as people tried to hit the stumps as many times as possible. To make it extra tricky we took out a stump every time it was hit until we were left with just one stump.

We all had lots of laughs, celebrated lots of victories and saw lots of improved skills. In particular we celebrated the success of one the participants who showed a major improvement in catching a small ball!

We’re definitely looking forward to running more cricket programs in the future.

Aaron, Cricket Victoria’s Community Engagement Officer added a few comments of his own on the session. “You have a terrific group of young people who are highly engaged in the Interchange Outer East Program.  To see a young fella like Zach progress to catching the ball in one session gave him great confidence, which is what our job is about. I’ll arrange for a kit to be sent out – just following up with Cricket Australia to see if we can get a new one – if not I can put together a kit similar to what we had last night.

Again, thanks again for inviting us to be part of activities. We all had a fantastic experience – which I hope reflected the enjoyment of those participating!  Please let us know if there is an opportunity to be involved again, particularly in term 4 or term 1 next year. ”

Cricket Victoria has now generously donated a kit to Interchange, so we can continue to work on our cricket skills and have fun playing cricket on camps.

If any IOEers are interested in playing cricket locally, the Ferntree Gully All Ability Team welcomes new members.
