Cheering The Cheerleaders

Earlier this year, Vive Studio in Kilsyth approached a number of community groups to gauge interest in forming an all abilities cheerleading team. IOE jumped at the opportunity and with support through the Purchased Options Program, put together a group of participants eager and enthusiastic to get involved.

So since mid April The Superstars have been meeting every Friday afternoon at the Studio, to work on their cheerleading skills and routines.

Last Saturday, a large and appreciative audience of friends and family got to see the team in action at their first Show Off. The event was a chance for all the Vive cheerleading and hip hop teams to show the audience their moves.

The Superstars ‘wowed’ the audience with the way they performed quite complex and challenging routines. Any pre-performance hesitation and stage fright was dispelled by the support of the other teams and, once the music started, completely disappeared!

What was apparent was that the Superstars had great team cohesion with everyone working really well together. Also apparent was the boost to self-esteem and confidence that cheerleading has given to the team members.

The Superstars are the first all abilities cheerleading team to enter into competition. Their first competition is in September at the All Stars State Competitions at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.  Vive Studio is hoping the Superstars performance at the competition will encourage other studios to start up similar teams.
