WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING AT INTERCHANGE

Interchange's BIG GIG fundraiser held at the York on Lilydale was again a success, this year raising over $6000.  As well as the rocking music of Glen Antoney and the Rock House Company, guests were entertained by Community Balance's linedancing 'COWGIRLS' and Balance's newly formed rock band the 'SUPERNATURALS', who launched their first CD on the night.

We are discovering a wealth of artistic talent amongst Balance participants. The past two years have seen a number of successful public exhibitions of artworks using a range of art mediums. Their latest artistic venture has been into the world of film, with the production of THE GEMSTONE CRUSH- a short film of murder and intrigue. The Balance film group wrote the script and acted the parts in the film. The Gemstone Crush was created for the inaugural 10 x 10 film festival which features short films by, and about, people with differing abilities. Some of the actors are also taking their film to the Awakenings Festival in Horsham in late October.

'THE BULB' MAGAZINE LAUNCH

The Balance Program recently celebrated the launch of a special edition of their magazine 'The Bulb' previously named 'The Perfect Balance'.  Thanks to a Youth Week grant by Department of Community and Development, the first edition of the bulb was able to be impressively produced in full colour.  Participants of Balance's Magazine Program were responsible for all research, content and images for the magazine. 'The Bulb' is a quarterly magazine and has a yearly subscription of $10. With tips, travel, food, jokes and gossip its a great read with a different take on life.

SPORTS WEEK 2008

Our fourth annual Sports Week in April was again a great success. Participants of the Balance program enjoyed a week long program of sports and activities which encouraged fitness and healthy lifestyle options and  celebrated differing abilities in the sporting field.

Highlights of the week were the Indoor Cricket tournament which pitched teams from Balance against staff teams and the 'everyone welcome' fun run/walk/roll around Lilydale Lake.

LEUKAEMIA'S GREATEST SHAVE

Interchange once again got behind the Leukaemia Foundation's Greatest Shave with staff and Balance participants going for the shave or colour.  Even a 20 year old beard got the chop and added considerably to the $550 raised from the event. Well done to all who participated.  Another example of communities helping each other.
st_george_logo Thanks to the latest donation of over $28000 by the St. George Foundation, Interchange Outer East is running a  new program of weekend camps  for children with disabilities and their siblings during 2008. Thanks again St. George!
