Whilst Interchange is primarily a service supporting families of children and young people with disabilities the agency’s vision extends beyond to include all people involved in the service.

  • BALANCE SERVICES SUPPORT WORKERS  - PART TIME-  23 HOURS
    Interested in creating better futures with young adults with a disability? Why not join the Balance team at Interchange Outer East & do exactly that in a supportive, forward thinking and fun environment.
    ‘Balance’ is an Interchange Outer East service which supports school leavers and young adults to explore what they want in life, through a range of learning, recreational and work opportunities alongside others in the community. Balance Services are based across 5 locations in the Ferntree Gully and Lilydale areas.

    Competencies required
    •    A strong commitment to a community where the rights and opportunities are equal for all.
    •    Experience in good person centered thinking and a good understanding of true community inclusion for all.
    •    Capacity to create new opportunities and experiences with young adults, individually and in groups in response to a planning process.
    •    Ability to work and contribute positively to a team.
    •    Excellent communication skills.
    •    To be a creative thinker with good problem solving skills.
    •    Administrative and computer skills.

  • SUPPORT WORKER POSITIONS AVAILABLE
    • Support workers for 16year old girl with Autism, living in Boronia. She loves freedom, being informed and having choice, is unable to communicate verbally, but will communicate through behaviour and body language.  Support Workers need to be able to think quickly and rise to tests. When upset or frustrated, she may occasionally  harm herself and others. The opportunity to develop a relationship with Support Workers is important to her.         
      Applicants should:
      *     Be willing to work regularly, so they can get to know her
      *     Have good understanding of autism, visuals and positive behaviour support strategies
      *     Have previous exposure to self harming and behaviours of concern
      *     Be confident, have a good store of common sense and be able to stay calm in high stress situations
      *     Be firm but fun
      *     Have there own car
      *     Be healthy, fit,strong and active.
    Shift times: Thursdays 3.45 - 7pm and Saturday or Sundays 11-5pm. Shifts may vary and extra support may be required during school holidays - consistent and regular carers preferred.

    • We are currently looking for committed and enthusiastic, in home casual support workers, to assist and support a married couple in their 50s in the Ringwood area.
      Support includes personal care (showering and toileting), hoisting, manual handling and meal assistance, shifts available 6 - 8am & 5 - 9pm. 7 days a week. Training and shadow shifts provided.

    • Support Workers required for a young woman living in Canterbury.
      Shifts entail personal care, hoisting, assistance with meals, communication, participation in continuing education programs and community access.Times of care 8am – 3pm and 6pm – 8pm Monday to Friday and 8 – 10am Saturday and Sunday.   Regular weekly shifts available and preferred. Experience preferred, but not necessary - a positive attitude and a desire to empower people are essential.     • Support workers required for a young lady in her early 20’s who has Autism and lives in Hawthorn. “Penny” is a very fun person who loves to meet new people and looks forward to seeing them again. Penny loves having a conversation, has lots of energy and is involved many fun recreational activities. She loves to be outdoors and go for walks and lives right near the Yarra River and Yarra Bend Park. Regular shifts available are:  Wednesdays from 2:45pm – 6:45pm to take Penny to Riding for the Disabled and Sundays from 1-5pm for general recreation out in the community

      Penny would benefit from support workers who are energetic, chatty and enthusiastic about engaging in different activities. She can have difficulty with communicating her feelings of boredom and frustration, so there are strategies in place that need to be consistently followed to ensure she remains safe and understood.  Support Workers are given the opportunity to get to know her while working alongside a Support Worker who is familiar to her.  Please contact Ashleigh  ashleigh.wicks@ioe.org.au  or 9758 5522  if you are interested in assisting Penny.
