A Weekend of Theatre and Footy

Friday before Grand Final, a group of young adults, Scott and myself met at the station to head into the city for a weekend of fun, theatre and footy. Off the train, into the city hustle and off to our hostel we went, dumped our bags and headed straight to a bar to celebrate Josh’s 24th birthday, a few hours of dancing, darts and drinks later everyone tumbled into bed.

Saturday was the grand final weekend, and the air in the city was buzzing. We wandered around Queen Vic market where we discovered a fantastic wig store, which had everyone in hysterics as we tried everything from hot pink bobs to green wavy mermaid hair. A coffee stop was needed, and then we wandered into Melbourne Central to find somewhere to sit and watch the game. We settled on the Lion, a fairly quite pub where we found prime seats right in front of the screen.

Game over and with some very happy Hawthorn supporters we grabbed dinner and headed off to the beautiful Butterfly Club to see the first of the 2 Improv shows that the group had chosen to see from the Melbourne Fringe Festival program. We kicked off our night with the ‘Impromptunes’, a group that improvise musicals from audience suggested titles. We were treated to their version of ‘Bubbles in Paris- The Musical’ and after laughing our way through the madness that is an improvised musical we headed to a different venue to see ’ 3 mad rituals’ a selection of improv games put on by new group ‘ The Improv Conspiracy’. This 90 minute Improv marathon was a MASSIVE hit with the group and as we left (with Chris muttering in delight about that fact that it had been a bit rude) we all agreed that we’d lucked out with 2 fantastic shows.

We headed back to the Hostel and collapsed into bed exhausted. The next day we took it nice and easy with a sleep in and then a trip to the pub for lunch before wandering home.

I have one of the best jobs in the world – and weekends like this last one just remind me of this fact.
