A Very Funny Night

Laughter was on the agenda for the latest Mums’ Support Group night out last week. Fiona O’Loughlin was the headline act at the Comics Lounge in North Melbourne, so a very funny night was in store. We had planned another night of comedy – a Fawlty Towers dining experience, based on that wonderful series starring John Cleese – but sadly it was booked out, so we opted for the Comics Lounge and were certainly not disappointed with our alternative outing.

Kids can be pretty funny but we were after entertainment and humour of a different kind – so all mention of children was banned.  A ‘no kids speak’ box was created and the merest mention of the ‘k’ word meant a donation in the box. It was Maxine’s birthday so the box proceeds bought her a glass of bubbly and a plate of dips. In order to boost the takings we included siblings and other people’s children in the ban.

The support acts were all funny guys and Joel Creasey, the MC for the night had us in stitches but Fiona had us literally crying from laughter with her take on her life and family. We were almost tempted to get her to put a coin in our box every time she mentioned her kids – but as her stories were so hilarious we made her exempt.

The following morning a few children may have had to get themselves ready for school as mums may have been tempted to have a sleep in, after all it was a very late night and laughter is hard work.

Thanks ladies for another great outing. We would love to share the camaraderie with some new faces, so if you’re a mum and part of Interchange I’d love to hear from you.
